Two opportunities to learn about Vera University’s certification programs.

December 29, 2011 by Vera Team
Join us for a free informational meeting to learn about the Vera Wellness Yoga and Personal Trainer Certification as well as our Wellness Coach Certification.  You may be looking for a career transition, deep personal discovery and transformation, or even continuing education.

Yoga and Personal Training Certification

Discover the growing demand for integrated wellness practitioners, and what makes the Vera training unique.  A single certification in our current yoga and fitness industry is often not enough. The Vera team has devised a program that qualifies you to become certified as a Registered Yoga Teacher (200 hr RYT through Yoga Alliance), as well as a personal trainer certified by NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) with just one 200 hour training.

Learn the Vera way of esteeming individuals through empathetic listening and a powerful physical practice that is rooted in a bedrock of spiritual wisdom from the east and emotional intelligence philosophies from the west.

Wellness Coach Certification

The Vera Fitness Wellness Coach Certification equips students with evidence based theories and skills that help their clients achieve lasting behavior change.

Wellness coaching is a rapidly growing segment in the wellness industry. People are not unhealthy or falling short of their wellness goals for lack of information. People lack the ability and proper understanding of motivation to change behaviors. Wellness Coaching draws out of individuals the motivation that is already in them and results in lasting lifestyle changes that in many instances give people back their lives. What a wonderful gift to give.

Both info sessions will be held at Vera Greenlake.

  • Saturday, January 7th 10:00- 11:00am
  • Thursday, January 12th 6:30- 7:30pm

Please RSVP to Valerie Burlingame at valerieb@verafitness.com

Holiday survival tips

December 19, 2011 by Vera Team
Holiday survival tips from your friends at Vera

We asked our staff what gets them through the holidays. Here’s what they said:

  • I go for a stroll with family after a big meal rather than sitting down on the couch and napping.
  • I get in as many ski days as possible, down hill or cross country. I play in the snow with my niece and nephew, making snow men and snow forts, and take long walks with the dog.
  • My first drink at a party is sparkling water. It keeps me from drinking too much wine!
  • I try to go for a run or bike ride shortly before a big holiday meal or party; it really takes away all my cravings for sugar and gluten, which are quite severe.
  • I consciously make one plate of food, fill it mostly with greens and the foods I really love and then…eat slowly – savoring every delicious bite!
  • I like to actively seek out humor.  When I allow the stress of the holidays to get the better of me, I tend to find comfort in unhealthy foods.  Lightening my mood helps to lighten my food intake.
  • I focus on balancing my social calendar with quality personal time. When I have a free evening I make myself a healthy meal full of fresh veggies, enjoy a meditative yoga class and, take my dog for an energizing run.  This lets me be fully present with family and friends in order to enjoy our time together.
  • I keep firmly committed to my yoga practice, even when I get too busy or tired – I know it will give me both the energy and peace I need for the season!
  • If I am going to a party, I purposefully park a couple blocks away so I can get fresh air, center and set an intention before arriving.
  • I focus on maintaining consistency by staying hydrated, exercised and well fed…taking in a “feel good movie or show”  also helps!
  • With so many sweets, treats, and snacks around during the holidays, I promise myself that when I’m feeling munchy I will first drink water, then eat something healthy, maybe an apple or celery with almond butter, carrot sticks or a green smoothie. THEN if I’m still wanting a little something, I can eat my treat knowing my body is well nourished and I won’t over indulge.

We hope these ideas provide inspiration to help you maintain your commitment to your wellness throughout the holiday season.

With healthy holiday cheer,

The Vera Team
